Sunshine Coast Foundation is a registered Canadian charitable organization: Charity number 896086105RR0001.

You can help us address vital needs on the Sunshine Coast for affordable housing, better care for seniors, safety and security for vulnerable individuals, accessible health care, child care, and help for immigrants by making a donation today. You can direct your gift to the Foundation’s core operations, to the Community Legacy Fund (from which we grant to variety of charities), to an existing permanent fund that supports a specific cause, or you can establish a new permanent fund in the name of your family or a loved one that is tailored to the causes you care about. To set up a new endowment please contact the Foundation.

There are several ways to give:

1. By Mail

Mail a cheque payable to: Sunshine Coast Foundation,  to P.O. Box 1343, Sechelt, BC V0N 3A0. Please include a note letting us know where to direct your gift.

2. Credit Card

You may make a donation with a credit card to any of our existing funds. (Please contact us before donating if you want to establish a new fund.) Note that we are assessed a small administrative fee for credit card gifts, so the net amount to us is slightly smaller than your donation. You may, if you choose, add the amount of that fee to your gift.

3. PayPal

If you have a PayPal account, making a gift is easy.

4. E-Transfer

Make a cash transfer from your bank account to ours by email to ED@sunshinecoastfoundation.org.

5. Securities

You can make a tax-deductible gift of publicly-traded securities without incurring a capital gain. Please use this fillable form and take it to your investment advisor. Have them contact our QTrade Advisor at SunCu Financial Services Inc. at (604) 885-3792 to make arrangements to transfer the shares to us. The Foundation will instruct that the shares be sold as soon as our investment advisor receives them. We pay a small commission for any shares sold on our behalf, which will impact the ultimate value of the donation we receive. Your tax receipt, if applicable, will not be impacted by the commission and will be based on the value of the shares on the date we receive them.

6. In your Will

Leave a legacy that generates benefits long after you are gone.

You can choose to leave a bequest to Sunshine Coast Foundation in your Will. We will provide an official receipt for income tax purposes to your estate. Bequests can be a specific dollar amount or a residual gift (either the entire residue or a percentage of your estate). Please ask your lawyer to visit this page for the appropriate language to use in your will.

6. Other ways to Give

Please contact us to discuss other forms of gift, such as making the Foundation a beneficiary to your registered retirement savings plan or life insurance policy.

Sunshine Coast Foundation Legacy Circle

Make a Future Gift to the Foundation

Many community foundations start modestly, taking many years to build the capital necessary to make meaningful grants to local charities. Occasionally, a significant bequest can be a game changer in terms of a foundation’s capacity. Such was the case for the Sunshine Coast Foundation in 2011, when we were the beneficiary of the estate of Vera Elizabeth Barron. A tiny woman with a big heart, Vera’s gift of nearly $2 Million more than doubled the size of the permanent endowment and significantly increased the Foundation’s ability to pursue its mission

Not every bequest will be this significant, and most are much smaller. Nonetheless, a gift in a will can make a major difference in the ability of your local community foundation to serve the needs of the community. Please make sure you have an up-to-date will, and consider making a gift to the Sunshine Coast Foundation, which will pay dividends for decades to come.

If you choose, you may notify us that you have left a gift in your will and become a member of the Foundation’s Legacy Circle. The names of Legacy Circle members are published in the Foundation’s Annual Report and on our web site to inspire others to consider doing the same.

The Foundation is very grateful that the following people have included a gift to the Community Foundation in their wills:
