In October 2017, the Sunshine Coast Foundation released its 2017 Vital Focus on Vulnerability. This two-page snapshot updates the indicators of vulnerability in relation to seniors, housing, violence against women, homelessness, and mental health.

In general, these indicators have deteriorated over the past several years. Keely Halward, Sunshine Coast Community Service Society’s Program Director, worries about the increasingly fragile situation of those who seek SCCSS’ services. “The costs of housing and other necessities have increased dramatically while income and disability assistance rates have stagnated,” she notes. “People are often forced to make difficult choices between food, housing, and health.”
