Ways of Giving

Please contact the Foundation’s Executive Director for any questions regarding making a gift: 604.741.7360 or ED@sunshinecoastfoundation.org.

Sunshine Coast Foundation is a registered Canadian charitable organization: Charity number 896086105RR0001.

You can help us address vital needs on the Sunshine Coast for affordable housing, better care for seniors, safety and security for vulnerable individuals, accessible health care, child care, and help for immigrants by making a donation today. You can direct your gift to the Foundation’s core operations, to the Community Legacy Fund (from which we grant to variety of charities), to an existing permanent fund that supports a specific cause, or you can establish a new permanent fund in the name of your family or a loved one that is tailored to the causes you care about. To set up a new endowment please contact the Foundation.

Curious about how a donation will impact your taxes? Check out this online tax calculator provided by CanadaHelps.

There are several ways to give:

1. By Mail

Mail a cheque payable to Sunshine Coast Foundation and send to P.O. Box 1343, Sechelt, BC V0N 3A0. Please include a note letting us know where to direct your gift.

2. Credit Card

You may make a donation with a credit card to any of our existing funds. (Please contact us before donating if you want to establish a new fund.) Note that we are assessed a small administrative fee for credit card gifts, so the net amount to us is slightly smaller than your donation. You may, if you choose, add the amount of that fee to your gift.

3. PayPal

If you have a PayPal account, making a gift is easy.

4. E-Transfer

Make a cash transfer from your bank account to ours by email to ED@sunshinecoastfoundation.org.

5. Securities

You can make a tax-deductible gift of publicly-traded securities without incurring a capital gain. This can be a great way of making a substantial gift without dipping into your cash. Please download these instructions for making a gift of securities.

Please contact the Foundation at 604.741.7360 or ED@sunshineoastfoundation.org if you have any questions.

6. In your Will

Leave a legacy that generates benefits long after you are gone.

You can choose to leave a bequest to Sunshine Coast Foundation in your Will. We will provide an official receipt for income tax purposes to your estate. Bequests can be a specific dollar amount or a residual gift (either the entire residue or a percentage of your estate). Visit this page for more information about leaving a gift in your Will. Please ask your lawyer to visit this page for the appropriate language to use in your Will.

7. Other Ways to Give

Please contact us to discuss other forms of gift, such as making the Foundation a beneficiary to your registered retirement savings plan or life insurance policy.

Stories: Jonathan Mason Hird

The Sunshine Coast Foundation is grateful to have received a final gift from long-time Gibsons’ resident, Jon Hird, as a bequest in his will. Always inspired by making a difference, he found ways to amplify his life knowing it was going to end. He sold his home and rented it back from the purchaser. He also arranged in his will to gift the proceeds of his home to organizations that were important to him.
