28 Dec Welcoming Community: Multicultural Cookbook
What better way to get to know each other than by sharing recipes that are unique to each culture?
The Welcoming Communities (WC) Program of the Sunshine Coast Community Services Society prepares immigrants for success by offering services, programs, and workshops in partnership with Capilano University. To transcend cultural barriers and celebrate the joy that comes with sharing food, WC brought together immigrant women to gather recipes from such countries as Russia, Korea, Jordan, Chile, Indonesia, Japan, Spain, Morocco, and Argentina.
Not only did the project provide an opportunity for new residents to get to know each other and learn about each other’s cultures, it also produced a mouth-watering collection of diverse recipes. “Thanks in part to a grant from Sunshine Coast Community Foundation, we were able to create this unique cookbook while helping new immigrants to connect with each other,” says project coordinator Maria Giltrow.
