The Department of Canadian Heritage offers an endowment fund matching program to arts and culture organizations.
The Canada Cultural Investment Fund – Endowment Incentives component encourages private donors to contribute to endowment funds for not-for-profit professional arts organizations, so they can access new sources of funding in the future. Raising capital and creating endowments gives these organizations greater capacity for realizing artistic expression by supporting their long-term stability.
Canadians are encouraged to support the arts by providing donations to an arts organization’s endowment fund. The government provides matching funds – of up to one dollar for every dollar raised from private donors – to create endowment funds or to increase existing ones.
Since its inception in 2001, and including recommendations for 2023-2024, the Endowment Incentives component has provided a total of $367 million in matching grants, leveraging private sector donations of $516 million, for a total of $883 million invested in 107 public charitable foundations and benefitting the long-term financial health of 307 professional arts organizations across Canada.
The application deadline is December 1st of every year. If your organization qualifies and you intend to apply for the matching program please contact us to alert us that you are applying. The process requires that we collaborate on the application.
For more information visit the Canadian Heritage website to ensure that you qualify.
If your arts organization has an Endowment fund with the Sunshine Coast Foundation, or if you would like to establish an Endowment fund, and are planning to apply for the match, please contact us.
