Judy Rother

Secretary (Volunteer Coordinator)

(ch’kw’elhp/Gibsons) Raised in Toronto, Judy’s parents instilled in her the importance of helping others as well as being concerned about community development.

After attending the University of Toronto and pursuing graduate studies at Syracuse University, Judy moved to Vancouver in 1974 and became a Speech Language Pathologist with the Burnaby School Board. She served in this profession for 36 years, retiring from the Vancouver School Board in 2011.

During her career, Judy became a facilitator in the Roots of Empathy programme, which helps to reduce levels of aggression in school-aged children by raising social-emotional competence and increasing empathy.

After moving to the Sunshine Coast in 2012, Judy became actively involved in the Canadian Tibetan Resettlement Project. She and her husband helped to privately sponsor Tibetan immigrants to the Sunshine Coast. In 2022, Judy and another woman formed the Ukrainian Refugee Project bringing 20 Ukrainian families to the Sunshine Coast.

Judy is particularly interested in helping Foundation become more involved in areas of multiculturalism and diversity as well as helping to make our community more inclusive for those with special needs and for families and youth at risk.

Judy’s interests include pickleball, bridge, mahjong and walks with her dog.
