Meet Erin Storey, the Foundation’s newly appointed Executive Director

The Board of the Sunshine Coast Foundation is very pleased to announce that Erin Storey has been appointed as its new Executive Director. Erin brings 25 years of management and leadership experience in for-profit, strata management, and small business ownership to the role.

“With her strong business acumen and deep ties to the community, the Board looks forward to the dynamic perspective and energetic commitment that Erin will bring to our efforts,” said Foundation Board Chair, Manjit Kang.

Beginning her career with General Motors, first as a plant manager in Ontario, then as a District Fixed Operations Manager here in BC, Erin exceled at nurturing relationships and building brand loyalty. In 2007, with their young family in tow, Erin and her husband, Ross, moved to the Sunshine Coast to acquire a small door and window business, Sunco Building Materials, which they still own and operate today. Most recently, Erin worked as a strata manager with Holywell Properties, where she honed her skills as a collaborative leader, providing effective and relevant guidance to strata councils and strata owners in the management of their properties.

Erin earned an MBA in Business Management from NYIT and a Bachelor of Business Administration with a minor in Psychology from Wilfrid Laurier University.

Erin finds balance in her day by spending time in nature with her family and Border Collie, Pippa. She is an avid traveler and back country camper, enjoys reading and golfing, and is currently training for her second triathlon. Regularly volunteering with the Hot Lunch program at Chatelech Secondary School, Erin spends the rest of her free time carpooling her 3 teenagers to various activities on and off the Coast.

Welcoming the opportunity to add philanthropic work to her portfolio, Erin looks forward to continuing the great work that’s already in motion at the Sunshine Coast Foundation.

The Foundation provides stable and sustainable financial support to charitable organizations from Port Mellon to Egmont, by pooling the gifts received from donors, carefully investing them, and then distributing the earnings to local charities and other qualified recipients.

“This week marks the Sunshine Coast Foundation’s 20-year Anniversary – a truly significant milestone – and yet, surprisingly, there are many people on the Coast who don’t know what we do,” said Storey. “It’s time to improve that – by continuing to share the stories of our generous local donors and the causes that inspire them to give, while also celebrating the many organizations who are carrying out this good work in our community.  We want to stimulate more conversations about philanthropy and planned giving, connect individuals and families with the causes closest to their hearts, and help people see how they can shape our community for years to come. This Board cares deeply about our community and the people who live here, and I am honoured to deliver this meaningful work alongside them.”

Erin assumed her position as Executive Director on January 30, 2023, taking over from Connie Baxter, who served as Executive Director since January 2022.

“The Foundation Board extends its sincere thanks to Connie, as she has played a significant role in advancing our organizational structure, Board relations, and the hiring of our new staff team,” said Kang.

Connie will consult to the Foundation, as needed, to ensure a smooth transition to Erin’s leadership. Thereafter, she will continue her volunteer commitments in the cultural sector and enjoy spending more time with her family and friends.
