28 Dec Supporting Vulnerable Populations
When Robert and Ellen Smith sold their home in Halfmoon Bay, they felt fortunate to have made a profit on the sale. After having read the Foundation’s Vital Focus on Vulnerability, the Smiths were inspired to create a fund that will have lasting benefits for their community. With a $50,000 donation, they established the Smith Family Fund for Vulnerable Communities, the annual earnings from which will support the programs and services of the Sunshine Coast Community Services Society.
“We knew we wanted to give something back,” Ellen explains. “We were really struck by the need for services for seniors, those experiencing violence, the homeless, the mentally ill, and other vulnerable populations. We wanted to make an investment to help support projects where the need is greatest.”
