26 Oct Leaving a Legacy: Susan’s Philosophy of Giving
Susan Grenville retired from TELUS after 30 years of service and left with a lifelong passion for giving back to her community.
In 2006 Susan, who was living in Calgary at the time, transferred to TELUS on the Sunshine Coast, a move that allowed her to be closer to family. Since being on the Coast, Susan has participated in “Give Where You Live” days, allowing current and retired TELUS employees the opportunity to make a difference through acts of giving, big and small. The national telecommunications company is well-known for its philanthropy and offers many “Acts of Giving” programs.
“I just think it’s so important to not always think about yourself but to think about others,” says Susan.
Included in Susan’s volunteering is the TELUS Community Ambassadors club on the Coast. The Club hosts a day of giving where volunteers work out in the community as a way of giving back. In appreciation for Susan’s volunteer time, TELUS donates money to charities that are close to her heart as part of their “Dollars for Doers” program. “This is where it all started for me,” shares Susan.
In retirement, Susan is still giving back to the organizations that she cares about. In addition to her volunteer work as a retired TELUS employee, she is a weekly volunteer at the Sechelt Seniors Activity Centre. Susan is passionate about the work being done at the centre to keep seniors physically and socially active in the community. They serve hot lunches, host line dancing, and play pickleball, along with a host of other fun monthly activities!
Susan’s philosophy of giving and her commitment to the Sunshine Coast community inspired her to leave a gift in her Will to the Sunshine Coast Foundation. “Everyone needs to have their will done,” Susan says. “We live in such a wonderful community with lovely people and it is so nice to give back when you’re no longer here.”
A gift left to the Sunshine Coast Foundation in a Will can make a real difference in our ability to serve the needs of communities on the Coast. Please make sure you have an up-to-date will, and once you have taken care of your loved ones, consider making a gift to the Foundation, which will pay dividends for decades to come.
If you choose, you may notify us that you have left a gift in your will and become a member of the Foundation’s Legacy Circle, like Susan. For more information about leaving a gift in your Will, visit this page.
